There are two versions of me. And if I'm honest, I don't really like “hurried Care”.
Hurried me gets frantic and easily frustrated. I might even see people as obstacles in my way when I'm rushing out the door and I think my kids don't feel it, but they do.
Hurry doesn't just affect us. It spills onto everyone around us.
So what I'm TRYING to do is recognize when I'm dawdling instead of getting ready (it's so hard not to check my phone!) AND, build a 10-minute buffer into those more stressful times of the week. Leave 10 minutes earlier. Start getting ready 10 minutes sooner. It's amazing how much more kindness fits into your day when you're not racing the clock.
John Ortberg asked his friend Dallas Willard “What do I need to do to become the me I want to be?" He was a busy pastor, husband, and father who felt stretched thin.
He was pretty to-the-point when replied: ”You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life."
Okay - he started a list - "What else?"
Willard said, "There is nothing else."

Because hurry doesn't just steal our peace—it steals our ability to love well and pay attention to what matters. And often, the people who feel it most are the people we love most.
